Work is underway to improve the facilities at Bletchley Youth Centre including re-instating the old basketball pitch
Building work is well under way to create an improved Centre and a multi-play area on the old basketball pitch for the use of all local young people and the residents of Bletchley and the surrounding areas.
The Bletchley Youth Centre project is a step closer now that the internals have been updated with fresh paint, a new downstairs kitchen, a new CCTV system and a viewing window to the main hall. The old derelict basketball pitch has been revived into a brand new multi play area for basketball, 5-aside football and tennis. We are soon to upgrade the main hall with a hardwood sprung floor and to replace the reception flooring.
The project, which is being funded by a £98.646 grant from FCC Communities Foundation, as well as some additional smaller grants from West Bletchley Council, John Lewis and Milton Keynes Community Foundation, will be fully re-opened at an Open Day very soon, to which everyone is invited.
The Bletchley Youth Centre Committee, and our partners Youth Network MK, are excited that the project is taking shape and that the works will be completed soon.
Gladstone McKenzie, Chairperson, says “It’s great to see our vision for this vital community facility moving closer to reality. We are extremely grateful for the funding FCC Communities Foundation has given us, which has also resulted in additional funding from others. We’re looking forward to sharing what we’ve achieved with the community at our event on Saturday 1st October. If anyone is interested in learning more about Bletchley Youth Centre, please contact us.
FCC Communities Foundation is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community projects through the Landfill Communities Fund.
Penny Horne, spokesperson for FCC Communities Foundation, says: “It’s always nice to see something we have funded start to take shape. We’re delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile project and look forward to it benefitting many people within Bletchley and the surrounding neighbourhoods.”
Once complete the Centre will provide a vibrant, fresh environment for many regular user groups offering activities for local young people and the community as a whole. It will also provide a quality venue for local people to base their own private events.
