Funding approved for refurbishment of Bletchley Youth Centre in West Bletchley
The Bletchley Community are set to get a new improved Bletchley Youth Centre thanks to a £98,646 grant from FCC Communities Foundation and to the tireless efforts of our Treasurer. The money will be used to bring back into use the old full size basketball pitch in the football field at the back of the Centre which will be marked for a range of ball games including basketball, football, tennis and badminton. The Centre itself will benefit from re-decoration, new heaters and a new sprung floor for the main hall, an upgraded downstairs kitchen, and general improvements to the Centre.
Gladstone McKenzie, Chair of Bletchley Youth Centre believes the improved Centre and particularly the basketball court will provide great new facilities for the whole community. He says: “This project will provide a real boost to the people of West Bletchley. All of our existing groups have been involved in the development of the bid and the many young people that attend activities here are very excited to see it all come to fruition. It’s fantastic that FCC Communities Foundation has awarded us this money and we are really looking forward to sharing our progress with everyone.”
FCC Communities Foundation is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community projects through the Landfill Communities Fund. Penny Horne, spokesperson for FCC Communities Foundation, says: “It’s always nice to see something we have funded start to take shape. We’re delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile project and look forward to it benefitting local people in Bletchley and many more in the surrounding neighbourhoods.
”The BYC Committee hopes the facility will be fully ready to use by October 2022 and will be extending an invitation to everyone in the area to celebrate with us at a Grand Re-opening Event at the end of this year.
